NEWS 2006

07/12/2006 This was it ! Last Saturday we played in The Roxy in Ieper and it was one of the best gigs of the year. Acne & the Kids  played a very good show before us, and when we started the pub was crowded to the roof. The audience amused themselves like hell on the gigs of The Dirty and The Thirsty Scums. Good gigs, fantastic audience, very friendly barkeeper, very sexy female barkeeper, great punk-DJ, tasty cocktails, beautiful girlz, ..., great evening !
25/11/2006 Yesterday we played with The Thirsty Scums in our hometown Tielt at the 3rd edition of the famous Tielt Ruist-festival. It was only our second gig in Tielt and the first one was already more than six years ago (at the same place and organized by ourselves). However, it turned out to be one of the Thirsty's worst gigs ever. An hour before our gig started there was a stupid fight that made leave half of the people, Zjantie fell to the ground and had some bruised ribs, as headliner we could only mount the stage at 1.30 am, then our bass ampli didn't give a fuckin' sound (thanx Sport Doen for using your bass gear !), I broke too much strings, the sound of the vocals on stage wasn't really that, ... Shit happens ... But it wasn't finished yet ! When we arrived home with the van, the electricity didn't work and as all this still wasn't enough, the wife started some stupid argue when I went inside. It was 5 in the morning and I took a tasty beer (Trappist Westmalle Blond) to relax a bit. Anyway, according to people who have the knowledge: we're so fuckin' good that even when we play a bad show, we're still better than the rest. Yes we are ready for the next gig !
11/11/2006 On 28/10 we played two pretty good gigs in Zoersel. There was not that much people but as the gigs progressed, also the atmosphere progressed to a very fine level. We finished just in time at the agreed hour, but then things just started to end up in a great party. People of The Mess asked if they could play some songs on our stuff, and in the next two hours almost everybody in the crowd hit the stage to contribute. Never heard people playin' with such a great guitarsound ! Everything ended with a mini-gig of M*e*S, who also had kicked off the evening. Sad thing to say: we lost/forgot our camera at the youthclub in Zoersel, with all the unique pictures of this great evening. If someone has found it, please return it to us, and if you won't, please return us the flash card with the pictures !
20/10/2006 Because Funeral Dress had cancelled that night, we found ourselves the headliner of the PunkNight in Kuurne last Saturday. Our gig had for me a bit of a false start, I had been drinkin' a beer too much before the gig and my stagemonitor wasn't well adjusted. However no one seemed to notice or to care and everything turned out very well. Except for the Go-hards, none of the other bands stayed after their own gig. We suppose the confrontation would be too hard for them to see how the job has to be done right. Furthermore we had a very amusing night and early morning at this inspiratin' place Den Tap.
14/09/2006 Last Saturday we had a very succesful sixth edition of our own Rock@SchuifersKapelle, a mini-festival with bands who have a link with this small village we live in. Not only plenty of people showed up, they also drank an enormous amount of beer. Besides The Dirty Scums there were excellent gigs of Guttural, Murder Intentions and Frustration. Up to the seventh edition !
01/09/2006 It was almost 20 years ago since we had a gig in one of Walloonish biggest places, Liège. This time we played in the famous Palais des Congrès for the occasion of a Tattoo Convention. Things went very well, friendly tattoo-people, nice stands, and en plus we were offered a second gig the same night in a pub. Finally it became much too late, and the second gig couldn't take place. But you don't have to wait another 20 years to invite us again, chères filles.
20/08/2006 The last gig we gave before I quit for my yearly holiday-beertrip was on 21st July in the beloved place the Vort'n Vis in Ieper. We were in the middle of this heat-wave afflicting Western-Europe, and it was literally the hottest gig The Dirty Scums ever played !
12/07/2006 Second great weekend in a row at Tielt, this time we had to survive the "Tieltse Feesten". This is a great yearly excuse for a weekend of heavy drinkin'. There were a lot of bands in very different styles. Bands I remember havin' seen are Nightlife, Rock Stovrie, and Dr. Feelgood (great !). And oh yes, at the end of the last day of the weekend also Janez Detd, although I only remember the part me shoutin' at the singer "you suck, you suck, you suck, ...".
05/07/2006 Last week we had the first edition of the two-day festival "Tielt Fest" in our hometown Tielt. The first day showed 10 regional bands where we co-headlined the day with local excellent coverband Rock Stovrie. The second day brought us 12 hardcore-bands, but you should not interprete hardcore as we use to know this style, they call it hatecore or also beatdown hardcore or something like that. Anyway, as stagemanagers we helped every band setting up their stuff on stage and afterwards getting it down stage again, from 2 pm till midnight or so. Afterwards, we and many other people were tired but very satisfied of this local festival !
03/06/2006 For the quick ones, there is some mailorder-stuff nearly sold out:
- The 5th Anniversay Gig-Tape: 5 copies left
- The Early Years-Tape: 1 copy left
- T-Shirt The Dirty Scums/Proud to be a Punk size XL: 3 shirts left.
02/06/2006 If you ask us, this was THE FESTIVAL OF THE YEAR ! Last Saturday in Oemtata in Ertvelde you could attend a historical line-up, namely about all what's still left of this once almighty Belgian eighties punkscene: W.R.3 (°1980 +1984 °°1996), The Dirty Scums (°1981), Bad Preachers (°1985) and Funeral Dress (°1985). Furthermore on stage were two of the crème de la crème of the more younger Belgian punkbands: Mise*en*Scene and the Hellies. The festival opened with female band the Klatters, whose performance we however missed. A big hug to Dafn of the Hellies for makin' this festival possible and for havin' such a good time, cheers mate ! For punx who like statistics: it was the 5th time we played with W.R.3, the 7th time with Bad Preachers, the 12th time with Funeral Dress, the 4th time with the Hellies and the 28th (!) time with Mise*en*Scene. Although I don't care: punx not dead, isn't it ?
25/05/2006 Last Friday we had this last-minute gig in JH Dino in Lovendegem. We were asked to replace Sonic Boom Six (GBR) whose drummer had broken his foot. It turned out to be a good gig with two other good bands (Mise*en*Scene and Violins), and lots of fun, Jupilers, Leffes and apple liquor afterwards !
28/04/2006 Despite my serious serious cold there was no thinkin' of staying at home last Saturday. Instead we gave a rather good performance at the B52 in Eernegem of owner Franky, a long-time sympathizer. We played again with town-mates Acne & the Kids, and further on Behaviour and Starfucker shared the stage. Because of my voice that had almost complete disappeared at the end of the Scums-gig, we had to cancel the gig of The Thirsty Scums. People didn't care anyway because half of them had left the place after a bleedin' fight in the pub.
19/04/2006 On Easterday, we played at the second day of the Roeselare Live-festival and had a very good time. The festival itself was well organised, the sound was decent, we had a lot of fun, met a lot of funny people, ... Yeah we don't and we won't say no to days like these.
31/03/2006 After a bit of this disappointing Friday night, the other day we had a great time at the Knockout Streetpunk evening in 't Oud Liefken in Zomergem. There was not at all a lack of beer or bars that closed, but definitely a great sound, very good bands and a great sphere. Hellies, we love you ! Hudson Falcons, too ugly to love you, but you played a great set !
25/03/2006 Due to a serious traffic jam in Antwerp, it took us 4 hours to arrive at the HerrieFest in Overpelt. This was just in time to attend the 1st class gig of Lunatic Society. It was again too long ago since we saw you on stage, buddies. After the Lunatix, we played a very long set (and a very good one if you ask us), it was 2.15 am when we finished our last song. Time to socialize with the sympathetic organiser but the people behind the bar were very disappointing, as they told the bar was closed at 2 am !
16/02/2006 Saturday we had the first issue of the cooperation between Acne & the Kids and The Dirty Scums. It took place in the very small pub of Frank Drank, drummer of the now legendary early punkband De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig. Frank gave the middlefinger to the neighbours and let us play far beyond 10 pm, so we let the house rock from the bottom to the roof ! First time also that I remember havin’ a pair of tits in both my hands during the gig, which isn’t quite easy for a guitarplayer. Take also a look at the reports I found on the net.
07/02/2006 Hey, whe had such a great time at the Tribute to Monsters of Rock festival in Deinze last Saturday. There were tribute bands of Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, Motörhead and AC/DC. Especially Motorheat gave us the right vibrations. En plus, this band was no one else than the lads of the eighties metalband Shellshock.
04/02/2006 Everybody knows our hometown is Tielt, but few people know that our native town is Zwevezele. Last week we played there for the 10th time already (however the previous gig was 11 years ago !), this time as headliner on the WisselRock-festival. A for this small village amazingly number of 400 people showed up. We played a very good gig and were proud to have played once again in our native town. Don't wait another 11 years to ask us back there !
18/01/2006 Man, this was a crazy evening in Maldegem ! Everybody went mad from the first tunes of The Thirsty Scums. And it only went more crazy, with people dancin' and tumblin' down, under, over, and in front of the stage. After The Thirsty Scums we played with The Dirty Scums and the crazyness went on. There were about eight bands in total on this festival and we really had a fuckin' great time all of the time ! The year 2006 started very alright !
06/01/2006 One week later and another country to play, this time it was France. On New Year's Eve we played in the 666 Wild Wild Club of owner Fred666. Very hard to find small town and very hard to find club: we drove 3 hours on it while it was only 70 km away ! Anyway, it was very worth the effort, you know that we like French people.
