Punkband The Dirty Scums was formed by Dirty Pik around Christmas 1981 and first performed in March 1982. It takes until 1983 for them to build a stable line-up, which exists of Dirty Pik, Dirty Zjantie, Dirty Jenz and singer Clo at that time. In 1984 singer Clo leaves the band and they decide to continue as a threesome.

The band is gaining popularity fast, performs all over the Flemish part of the country and becomes one of the leading bands of the second Belgian punkwave next to other bands such as Zyklome A, Capital Scum, Sponky Business, … In 1985 “Dirty Songs” appears, their first album. It is the second album of the Belgian punkscene of that time (Zyklome A preceded them), and the first creation in a long line of products released invariably on their own independent label Dirty Records.

At the end of the eighties most eighties punkbands have split. The Dirty Scums, however, are immortal and keep going on very actively with their punkmusic. In 1994 a fourth member joins the band, but early 1998 the Scums are reduced to a threesome again. After that Dirty Pik, Dirty Zjantie and Dirty Keez are still ready like young foals to power through with heart and liver for at least some time past retirement age.

Next to their own gigs, they also organize all kinds of small-scale festivities with great enthusiasm, such as Rock@Schuiferskapelle, TieltRockt!, Local PunkHeroes, Anniversary Gigs, … and in summertime they even run an occasional cafe. In the meantime their discography is gettting longer each time, as time and again refreshing new punk food is released on anyone who wants and doesn’t want to hear it.

In spite of the fact they have many years on the counter The Dirty Scums are still synonymous with a very active punkband, on which young punx as well as the punx who experienced the ’77-heyday at that time, still go wild. After four decades of uninterrupted punkrocking the Scums are undoubtedly the uncrowned Kings of the Belgian DIY punkscene.
