Raxola: Raxola

Bloody Belgium says (1997):

"... Side A starts off with Raxola's '84's man', taken from their first and only untitled LP on Philips Records, released in 1978."

"... We conclude with 'Bloody Belgium' from the Kids and 'Old Rat' from Raxola, both songs off their debut LP's."

Bloodstains says:

II (1998): "... We open with Raxola, probably from Limburg. One of the few Belgian punkbands to release a full album (the others being the Kids & Hubble Bubble). It seems Raxola wasn't really a punkband as such, but Philips, hot on the heels of the success of the Kids, were on the lookout for a new talent. So when they got in touch with Raxola, they told the band they could get a record deal if they punked up their songs. Which they did & the result was quite smashing ! The record was released in 1978 & unfortunately went pretty much unnoticed, so did the band itself cos nobody seems to be able to tell much about them. They did do some liveshows however. We heard that most copies of the album got destroyed, making this a very rare item these days."

III (1999): "... On the previous volume we couldn't tell you much about Raxola but fortunately for you, some info now has surfaced. Raxola were a bunch of experienced musicians from the Brussels area (though Kengen is of Dutch heritage) who one day decided to go in the studio to record a punkalbum & try to get it released. Philips picked it up but didn't press more than 500 copies, of which 350 were made available for sales. The critics unanimously panned it down (as far as that goes, not much has changed in Belgium, the local press wouldn't recognize a gem if they stepped on it), but the band managed to squeeze in a total of 10 liveshows, where they oa shared the bill with the Kids. They recorded a second album, which wasn't very punk & never got released. That was the end, that is untill now, some 20 years later, when the Raxola album is considered as one of the best punkalbums ever & definitely the best one to ever come out of Belgium. JL U-Boat was the bassplayer on the Raxola album & next up he joined Hubble Bubble for their second alum (he is pictured on the sleeve & quoted as bassplayer though he didn't actually participate with the recording)."
