01. Short history of the band ?
02. What about straight-edge and its influence on the punkmovement ?
03. Do you think it's possible to live outside the system ?

01. Short history of the band ?

At the end of 1981, PIK had written a few songs which he wanted to share with some other people than his relatives. So he looked for a bassplayer, a drummer and a singer, and he found them too, namely HANZ, ANIMAL and DUVEL. After ten gigs (the first one on 6th March 1982) the drummer left the band (exhausted ?) and also the vocalist stopped because he didn't have the courage anymore to search for another drummer and to start all over again. After a while the rest of the band found another drummer (ZJANTIE) and vocalist (BART, brother of HANZ in April 1983. In summer 1983 the brothers were thrown out because they weren't interested anymore. No panic however, the very same day JENZ (bass) and CLO (vocals) were recruted and the SCUMS could continue to terrorize the world. But after a year CLO got fired after some disputes (she drank all our beer out of the rehearsalroom and she didn't want to participate anymore at the weekly orgies) and since then THE DIRTY SCUMS are a three-piece band, namely PIK (vocals/guitar) - ZJANTIE (drums/vocals) - JENZ (bass/vocals).

02. What about straight-edge and its influence on the punk-movement ?

We aren't against the fact that someone refuses to drink alcohol but we think that straight-edge as a movement can bring along (a form of) intolerance on both sides, and that we can't approve. And because of straight-edge, the punkmovement has lost a part of its streetcredibility, the punkscene has a tendency to become too clean.

03. Do you think it's possible to live outside the system ?

We don't know, we think it's very difficult to live outside the system because you depend on it for so many things, and it isn't a solution if you want to change it, running away doesn't help. But you can create your own world within the system, you can do things your own way, living in a certain system doesn't necessarily mean that you have to agree with it.
