01. What about a new record ? When will it appear ? Are you working at new songs ?

In May (14th + 15th) we are going to the studio again to record a new single (two tracks) and three songs for the next album. The rest of the album we hope to record in September. We know already which of our songs will appear but we still are working on them in order to improve them and to play them better. It’s going to be a '77-punkrock-album with rock and pop (Ramones) influences and also one metal song with our opinion about the metalinvasion nowadays in the punkscene. If everything works out as we have planned, the third album should be released at the end of this year.

02. Have you got new songs ? How are they called ?

We have a lot of new songs. Up till now we always have been very fertile and that makes it easy to make an interesting repertory. Of course there are problems now and then when we are selecting songs for an album (every member has his favorites and they sometimes don’t correspond. But as far as this, we always have been able to solve them. Here are some titles (to answer your question): "Drinkin' the night away" - "All day fucker" - "Against the norm" (new metalsong) - "Wild and Dirty" - "Picturebook of you" - "I’m really sick of it" - "I wanna see the Ramones" - "On the road again" - "In South-Africa" - "Zulma was a bitch".

03. How did you get your record-agreement ?

As a matter of fact we don’t have a record-agreement with a recordcompany like EMI e.g. if it’s that what you mean. In the beginning we wanted to do everything ourselves (finances, distribution, promotion) so we created our own company, Dirty Records. In fact, Dirty Records is a part of V.Z.W. The Dirty Scums (V.Z.W. stands for Association Without the intention of making Profit and that’s a legal and official form of association in Belgium) which includes more than making records. We also organize gigs and art-exhibitions for instance. In that way the responsibility isn’t personal but it’s for the association and that’s safer of course if something goes wrong.

04. What’s the meaning of your words ?

We sing, among other things, about our personal experiences with girls, parents, about friendship, making fun, beer … These are a great part of the subjects of our songs for the new album. Although they aren’t very serious and they may seem without a contents (e.g. "Drinkin’ the night away") we think that it is very important too, to sing about the little things in life, those things who make you happy like friendship, girls, making fun. Apart from this, we have also lyrix who talk against fascism, racism, nuclear war, army, cops, South-Africa, about the hunger in the Third World, the Belgium government, and that’s very important too of course. By singing about those problems we contribute our share to make the world better and to let certain people see that they are wrong.

05. Are you content about your label ?

In general yes. We are independent so we don’t have to make compromises with the bosses of a record-company about the kind of music, covers of albums, image, … , and that’s good. But the distribution of the records could be a lot better. Now we have to sell our records ourselves and we have the feeling that we don’t reach enough people in that way.

06. What about a tour ? When will you come to Germany ?

Well, somebody has offered us some gigs in Spain, but up till now we don’t have a concrete agreement with the person who will organize the tour. On the other hand it’s difficult to disengage ourselves (we all have a job) so nothing is certain in fact for the Spanish gigs. Germany is a lot closer than Spain, so where are you waithing for to ask us for a gig ? We would like to visit Germany with it’s well-known beer and their hübsche mädchen.

07. Which is your favorite group ?

The Ramones, they are the greatest (after us of course (joke)).

08. Are you in contact with other groups ?

We have contacts with a lot of Belgium bands, mostly on gigs when we are playing together. Some names: Vortex (H.C. from Charleroi), Seattle (H.C. punk from Kortrijk), Eardamage, Get stuffed (punk). Pik has a lot of contacts with bands from all over the world, with whom he trades records and so.

09. What do you think about groups like Napalm Death, do you listen to that kind of music ?

We don’t know their music very well but we heard them once on a (free) radio and we didn’t like it. We do listen to metal and crossover but we have our ideas about it. In Belgium, one is supposed to sound "metal", when you don’t, you don’t get much attention. As far as we are concerned metal as an influence is good, but now it’s a norm and we don’t agree with that. The Belgium balance pulls over to the metal side and the rest doesn’t get much attention. The sphere in the scene isn’t like it used to be, everything has become more serious (straight-edge) and less rebels. That’s our impression and maybe we aren’t quite right about but we used to have more fun a few years ago. But still there are happening good things of course like lots of gigs with foreign bands, records from Belgium bands, fanzines. Belgium is still as active as it was some time ago in spite of everything.

10. Which groups do you listen to in your free time ?

We listen to a lot of bands and to many kinds of music. First of all our favorite music, Punkrock: Sham 69, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, X-Ray Spex, The Vibrators, U.K. Subs, The Damned, The Ramones and many more. We also listen to H.C. and metalmusic: Cyclone, Boneles Ones, Toxic Reasons, English Dogs, G.B.H. , Eardamage, Vortex, D.R.I. (now and then), Heibel, Verbal Abuse, Motorhead, Judas Priest, … We also listen to rock, pop sixties, blues, hardrock, e.g. Rolling Stones, The Stooges, Iggy Pop, AC/DC, Status Quo, Tyla Gang, Joe Jackson, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Herman Brood, The Sweet, The Hollies, …

We try to vary our music with ingredients from all those kinds of music and that’s interesting for us and for the people who listen to our music.

11. What do you do in your free time ?

Reading a book / paper / fanzine, watching a movie at home, going out and drinking beer, listening to music, playing our instruments, talking nonsense to girls, making love and liquor, going to concerts, answering letters and things we forget to mention.

12. What’s your age ?

PIK: 27 (what is he old, uhn?) - ZJANTIE: 24 - JENZ: 23.

13. How long are you playing your instruments ?

Jenz plays the bass since he was sixteen and Pik and Zjantie since they were babies and they still can’t do it right. Joke, we play our instruments three metres long.

14. Have you ever played in other countries than Belgium ?

We played two times in the Netherlands, the first time in Maastricht and the second time in Amsterdam and that’s it. But we like to play more in foreign countries to meet other people and to know what it’s like to play for another audience. In Belgium we generally have the same audience but it’s a very good one.

15. What’s your next aim ?

We would like to do that tour in Spain but first of all we want to record and release our new single and album. And further we want to play many gigs and having a lot of fun and stay friends forever. We also want to thank you for this interview, and sorry we kept you waiting so long.
