01. What’s the line-up ?

DIRTY PIK (24, vocals/guitar) - DIRTY ZJANTIE (21, drums/no vocals) - DIRTY JENZ (20, bass/vocals). This line-up dates from october 1984.

02. Have you played many gigs ?

Since The Dirty Scums started we have played about 75 gigs. And with this line-up we have already done about 30 gigs.

03. What about releases ?

The noise we produce you can hear on Second Time Around (Punk Etc.), 24 Love Songs (Smurfpunksrelease), Alle 55 kort (Niels De Wit), … The most important release (the most representative too) however is our first album "DIRTY SONGS" that dates from July 1985. Most recommendable !

04. Do you work together with any other bands ?

In the beginning we had a cooperation with No Numbers, but after a while we had a quarrel and we found it necessary to stop our working together (now we live in peace again with NN). Nowadays we work from time to time together with Sponky Business. In generally there’s a good cooperation between the Belgian bands.

05. What about history of the Belgian punk ?

We're not archeologists, so we don’t say anything about the history of punk in Belgium. Nowadays, we think the scene is good, much gigs, fanzines, punx aren’t passive. But it’s a pity, it are always the same people who do something, so it could be better.

06. What about Anarchy ?

Anarchy is a very good way to live together and we all try to reach it, but personally we think anarchy is something that can’t be reached as today’s world is now. People are too conservative.

07. Are there problems with skins in Belgium ?

Certainly ! We have had some gigs where skins were too and they started throwing things at us, shouting Sieg Heil …, cutting someones face open with a razor. On other gigs (those we’ve missed) they started fights. They just wanna ruin our movement, the bastards.

08. Opinions about religion ?

In our opinion everybody has the right to believe whatever he wants to believe, but he’s got to have respect for someone else his opinions. That doesn’t happen always because people are indoctrinated to obey the law of the church. So we hate a religion that controlls people, (most religions controll people) that makes people a toy, that makes them blind and stupid.

09. What is punk for you ?

Having a mohawk, behaving very heavy (joke of course). For us it’s just a way of living together in peace and freedom (correction: trying to live), try to do things our way, to do something about the cancers of this earth, like fascism, militarism, Martens, …

10. How is it to be young in Belgium ?

Lots of young people are unemployed so they can’t go living on their own with the charity fee they get from the state. The only thing they can do is waiting for better times and that’s very frustrating. Personally I fall a bit between those things: I’m unemployed but I live together with my girlfriend who has a job.

11. Are there many nazi-punx in Belgium ?

Personally we can’t name you one but go ask Koyaanisqatsi. We think they know some, they had a bit trouble with them we heard.

12. Why your name ? What does it mean ?

I really don’t know what "Jenz" means, but if you mean the name of the band, well "Scums" means bastards and that’s how we’re called when we meet certain people. Most people think we’re very rotten but they don’t really know us, isn’t it a pity !

13. What do you think about today’s world ?

Don’t talk to us about it. We don’t think there’s a period in history that’s worser: nuclear weapons, fascism, militarism and most of all: ignorance, people don’t seem to care about it.

14. Brazilian Scene.

We don’t know it but a short time ago we read in a fanzine (Extra Punk Special) that there’s a city where there live over 600 punx. So we think it’s gotta be good.

15. How are your gigs ?

Most gigs are fun, much pogo, much beer. It gives us a kick when you see an up-down going crowd that’s having fun.

16. Anything more to say ?

Drink a beer and enjoy "DIRTY SONGS".
