5TH ANNIVERSARY GIG
METALLISED (BEL) - Summer 1988
Recorded through the P.A. on the 5th Anniversary Gig of The Dirty
Scums on May 31th 1987, this tape features five bands: Full Time Drinkers,
Vortex, Black Vampire, Crisis-C and The Dirty Scums (although they weren't
supposed to play: it should've been Eardamage and W.C.F. but they weren't
allowed to play for reasons to be found further on). For a live recording this
is very, very good quality. I'd like to resume the text on the inner sleeve:
"If Punk and Speedmetal aren't unifiable it's not only because some
'77-punks should better stay at home instead of coming to gigs and giving the
cops a reason for raiding the gig because of vandalism and harrasment". This
tape is especially interesting since Full Time Drinkers, Crisis-C nor Black
Vampire have no other material available (nor WILL 'cos they're all split up).
Except for The Dirty Scums (who play '77-punk) this is fast trashcore. Stel
RIT'N ZAT TE SKIT'N BACHT'N D'HOAGE
METALLISED #11 (BEL) - Spring 1990
TDS' old days revisited and maybe even better. The first side (in
a dialect of Dutch meaning "Henry was shitting behind the bush") is
heavy rock'n'rolling and even a bigger immediate classic than "Martens, jij
ouwe rukker". It includes piano and the sound is very powerful. The
flipside is called "Paid Love" (about fucking a whore), is a little
softer and has alternate male and female vocals. Lots of people don't like The
Dirty Scums because they sound piggish but that's their trademark and they do it
well. Stel
THE BOOZE AND THE CHICKS
METALLISED #11 (BEL) - Spring 1990
The sixth release on their own label and it's quite a nice surprise. Their
previous album "Full Speed Ahead !" showed a trashed out Dirty Scums.
After that they released "'Rit'n zat te skit'n"-7" (see review in
this issue) which was a return to their roots ('77-punk). And now this ! An album
full of heavy '77-influenced Punk. Yep, PUNK that's what it is. No more, no less.
Straight forward mid tempo PunkRock with so much power most people would've
never expected The Dirty Scums to be able of it. The Dirty Scums are still
together and still have it together and still don't take the world too seriously
(although they are socially engaged). The lyrics proove this. Items covered are:
a frivolous lady next door, Clint Eastwood, a celibatary postman, life on the
road, the Ramones, pollution and booze & girls (with this title, these
should be, no ?). This album should get The Dirty Scums recognition in the
Belgian scene (and the rest of Europe) if it gets the promotion needed. The
sleeve however leaves a bit to be desired in my opinion but I'm sure the band
wanted it this way. Let's hope people don't judge them on that, they would be
wrong. "All day fucker" is my favourite. Stel
