THE DIRTY SCUMS

LINE-UP Pik - Zjantie - Jenz
SONGS I wanna see the Ramones
COMMENTS This track is taken from the "The Booze and the Chicks"-LP (1989). Before this release The Dirty Scums covered already some Ramones-songs. Thanx to this compilation they got the idea to start to play a complete set of Ramones-covers. This happened under the name The Thirsty Scums.

PRESS

HAMMERHEAD - FALL 2000

I hold yet another tribute record. This one has 26 punk songs on it. Do you really think I'm gong to go into the whole record ? I think not. But I will clue you in on a few bits that stood up. First being Motorhead! Doing "R.A.M.O.N.E.S." What more do you say there? Die Toten Hosen with Joey Ramone doing "Blitzkrieg Bop" together. I didn't like that Atlantic record they did. Also something very notable is the contribution by non-metalhead Nina Hagen offering up "Lass' Mich In Ruhe" with Dee Dee helping out. I'm seeing now more and more that none of these bands are from the USA. Cool. Germany and Croatians also dig American punk of yesterday today. Action Pact! Has a female vocalist that kicks it with Steve Drewett as they slam to "Rockaway Beach". Patereni offer up that death punk extreme that is the most different sound here. The butcher "Endless Vacation". You'll find much more punk here from names like: Blind Pigs, Hass, The Adicts, The Dirty Scums and more.

AIDING & ABETTING #205 - 18/09/2000

A German tribute to the Ramones. Not all of these are Ramones songs, either. Included is Motörhead's "R.A.M.O.N.E.S.", Nina Hagen and Dee Dee Ramone singing "Lass mich in Ruhe", the Badtown Boys' "Dee Dee Took the Subway" and The Dirty Scums' "I wanna see the Ramones". There are also a few Ramones tunes translated into German or Finnish or what have you. That's pretty interesting. But what isn't as good are the run-through performances. I mean, almost all of these bands are monster Ramones fans. And these versions (even in different languages) don't sound terribly different than the originals. But I've gotta give some creds for the inclusion of the songs about the Ramones. They're all fun, though most can be found elsewhere. In sum, this disc is about average when it comes to tributes. Amusing, but not vital.

SLAVICSKY'S SMORGASBORD - WINTER 2002

The legendary Ramones are payed homage to on this release of 26 cover tunes which prove that the Ramones are still a driving force in today's punk as when they first took over the punk scene in the late '70s. This is a great companion to the Ramones’ official compilation All The Stuff (And More) where all the original songs can be heard. On this tribute CD, all the tracks are great, but the songs that stand out are Die Toten Hosen's version of "Blitzkrieg Bop" featuring Joey Ramone, the beautiful Nina Hagen doing "Lass Mich In Ruhe" with Dee Dee Ramone, the Croatian band Patareni doing a noisecore version of "Endless Vacation" which totally rocks and is radical, the Boogeyman doing a slow surf rockabilly sound to "Surfin' Bird" which the Ramones covered a lot (check out the cool turntables scratching during the middle of the song), and the original song by The Dirty Scums called "I Wanna See the Ramones". If you must check out one Ramones tribute, let this release be it.

Hey, Ho ! This didn't bl**w ! I'm watching my language on the title, but you get the important facts of it. I do say this was a really good cover. It even beats the "We're a Happy Family"-Tribute album. This was the best Ramones Tribute album I've found yet, and there are plenty. The "Ramones Forever: an International Tribute" was second best, then "We're a Happy Family". Some of the bands that appear on here have appeared on other Ramones Tribute albums. And they still do good on each of them. Some of the songs added to this are tribute songs, and not covers, pretty creative. Anyway, some of the songs on here do get boring to listen to more than once, and considering that I only speak English, are hard to understand. But even for only English speaking people, the tune is relevant enough in most songs to understand wich original it is. This compilation includes different aspects of the type of musicians the Ramones influenced. The Blind Pigs do a cover of "The KKK took my Baby away", they keep along great, adding a Rancid type punk edge. While Die Artze covers the same song and turns it around with a Pop Rock sound. The Dirty Scums appear on this Tribute album too, adding their own tribute song: "I wanna see the Ramones". They really bring back a 70's punk sound, and are a highlight on the compilation. I do say that this is probably the best Tribute album for the Ramones so far, depends on what you're looking for in one.
